Recently my nursing friends and I have been discussing the cardiovascular system which includes the heart and blood pathways, and its importance to our survival. I'm sure you've noticed that when you fall over and graze your knee, or the knife slips and you cut your finger, that the substance that escapes your body is red. But look at your wrist..and you'll notice that your veins are blue. Say WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT? That just doesn't make sense...or does it..?
You see, veins carry deoxygenated blood towards the heart, while arteries are the amazing tunnels that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to other areas of the body. The veins in your wrist are just that...veins! Therefore, are carrying deoxygenataed blood back to the heart.
After thinking about this for an extended period of time, we have come to a conclusion, which is really more like a question that we demand an answer for...
The blood of an alien is blue. Is this because there is NO oxygen on Mars, therefore always carrying deoxygenated blood in their bodies? Huh? Huh? Is it??
When have you ever seen an alien on mars? If alien with blue blood has been sigted on planet earth then that would mean they have access to oxygen, ahh you med geeks crack me up, just a thought, if our bodies were slightly more transparent, what color would our intestines be, and what explanation would you have for it, lol they like intestines! =)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the alien blue blood thingy really, just trying to think of a smart way to reply, that was my lame attempt, I felt kind of smart that I knew about the color of blood already though but anyway, I'm going to start talking now.. I have said enough, yip definitely have said enough, I not going to write anymo
my comment was so stupid, I'm and had lots of mistakes :( I'm definitely a newbe
ReplyDeleteI like your use of the font colors though, I need to sleep grr, I'm acting like I'm on facebook, how embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteHa Jade you're so funny....thanks for all the comments...I dont think anybody's ever commented three times in as many minutes on one of my blogs before. You would have to be the first! :D
ReplyDeleteBlood's red when you cut yourself because it becomes oxygenated the moment it's exposed to air.
ReplyDeleteAm aware of that, Anonymous...but that's exactly my question..if there was no oxygen, and therefore blood was never exposed to it, would it be blue??
ReplyDeleteWho are you by the way...?
Hmm. Since when are all aliens from Mars? And since when is Alien blood blue?
ReplyDeleteAh actually its since tuesday that all aliens come from Mars, and since wednesday that aliens blood was blue..
ReplyDeleteAccording to my extensive five minute research, deoxegenated blood is actually a dark red in colour, and it's the tissue between the blood and skin that makes it appear blue...but that still doesnt answer the question about aliens.
The last alien i encountered seemed to have a variety of blood colours, and they seemed to be changing continuously like some neon light you'd often see outside a Chinese Takeaways. And when i slew it, it's blood evaporated as if it were mercury or a similar substance.
I am amazed at how many comments this silly post has got...mostly from people I dont know! It would be nice if I did know who you were though...leave a name next time..?
ReplyDeleteAn interesting point made by Ev? about the tissue between the blood and the skin, I don't think I have ever seen a red vain before, a red neck perhaps but not a red vain, but i just want to make one more comment, why do people turn purple sometimes when they get cold?
ReplyDeleteAm I diverting from the Alien topic maybe, hmmm, to be honest I don't believe in them, there you go I said...
Ha no me neither..
ReplyDeleteThe cold thing? Maybe..it's because when you're cold, your veins constrict so even less blood flows through..makin you less..skin coloured..?
To be honest Jade, I don't believe in them either..and I'm rather gutted that all these comments are on this silly post, and theres none on my actual serious posts.
